Basurto – San Mamés

Basurto Civic Centre

The Zankoeta Civic Centre, renovated by BILBAO Ría 2000 and serving the Basurto-Zorrotza district, is located in the old Municipal Disinfection Centre, built in 1917 with a project by Ricardo Bastida, and is of great architectural value, so the works included the restoration of the facade and other original elements such as the windows and chimney.

One of the characteristics of this building, which replaces the facilities located on Calle Luis Briñas, in one of the buildings of the Garellano barracks, is the roof over the central body, which is an intense green colour reminiscent of the shape of a lego piece, giving it a lively and cheerful image.

Also noteworthy is the presence of a road for internal use, located between the central and lateral bodies, which has the appearance of a street as it has urban furniture and garden areas. As it is glazed, it lets natural light into this enclosure.
