Ametzola

Adif and Renfe Railway Covering

The Ametzola district was occupied for many years by three freight railway stations. The covering of the tracks and adaptation for passenger use made it possible to recover an area of 110,000 m2, connect it with the rest of Bilbao’s Ensanche area and eliminate an urban barrier that prevented the development of several adjacent neighbourhoods. The action carried out by BILBAO Ría 2000 led to the total disappearance of this barrier with the creation of a large space for pedestrians and the extension of the Avenida del Ferrocarril, which was connected to the Calle Antonio Trueba and Calle Santiago Brouard via a roundabout.
