Abandoibarra

Pedro Arrupe Walkway

The Pedro Arrupe footbridge is a project initiated by the engineer José Antonio Fernández Ordoñez, which was taken over after his death by his son Lorenzo and the civil engineer Francisco Millanes. Inaugurated alongside the Paseo de Abandoibarra and the Avenida de las Universidades, it is built in duplex steel and its interior is made of lapacho wood.

This visual and aesthetic contrast between the cold exterior surface and the warm interior of the wood is one of its most significant characteristics, although the work itself stands out for the techniques and materials used as well as for its actual conception. The model of this piece was exhibited at the Shanghai World Expo in 2010.
